Suppression Services

When it can't be removed, it can still move. Some content is accurate, legal, and staying online — in those cases, the honest path is building a stronger, more current picture that ranks above it, on Google and increasingly in AI answers too.

Quick overview

  • Suppression covers two related efforts: SERP cleanup on Google, and AI reputation repair for what ChatGPT, AI Overviews, and Perplexity say about you. See both services.
  • Suppression builds new content up rather than taking anything down, so it takes longer than a straightforward removal. See how long it takes.
  • If part of what's showing up is realistically removable, that's usually the faster path — worth ruling out first. See related services.

When suppression applies

Suppression exists for one specific situation: the content about you is accurate, isn't going anywhere, and no removal request — however well-argued — is going to change that.

  • A negotiated settlement that's a matter of public record.
  • A news story about something that genuinely happened, written by a legitimate outlet.
  • A negative but not policy-violating review.

In each of these cases, asking a platform to take it down is asking them to do something they have no obligation, and often no legal ability, to do.

The honest alternative isn't to make the content disappear — it's to change what actually surfaces when someone searches your name.

That means two related but distinct efforts. The first is classic SERP cleanup: building and strengthening content strong enough to outrank the older, unwanted result on Google's first page — a more current, more complete, more authoritative picture of you or your business that search rewards over a years-old story.

How suppression actually works

The second is newer and growing faster than most people realize: correcting how AI tools describe you. When someone asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Google's AI Overviews, or Perplexity about your name, those systems summarize whatever sources they find — often the same outdated or one-sided material that ranks on page one.

Fixing what shows up in a Google search doesn't automatically fix what an AI assistant says, since the two draw on overlapping but different source sets and update on different timelines. That's why AI reputation repair is treated as its own service here rather than an assumed side effect of SERP work.

Both approaches take longer to show results than a straightforward removal, because they're building something up rather than taking something down — there's no single request that resolves it overnight. What determines the timeline is largely how competitive the existing search results already are for your name, which is exactly what your free assessment evaluates before any work begins.

If part of what's showing up for your name is realistically removable — a fake review, a mugshot, a piece of content that violates a platform's own policy — that's the faster, more direct path, and it's worth ruling out first (see Content Removal, below).

Not sure what's currently showing up for your name? Run a free reputation scan to see what's already ranking, check a specific result with our free removal assessment tool, or run a free people-search scan if exposed personal data is part of the picture.

Common questions

How is SERP cleanup different from AI reputation repair?

SERP cleanup targets Google's search results page — building and strengthening content that outranks the unwanted result. AI reputation repair targets a separate problem: what ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity say about you, which draws on different sources and doesn't automatically update because your Google rankings improve. Most suppression cases benefit from both; some need only one.

Should I try removal before suppression, or can I do both at once?

If any part of what's showing up is realistically removable — a fake review, a mugshot, a policy-violating post — that's almost always faster, and worth ruling out first. Suppression and removal aren't mutually exclusive, though: it's common to run a removal request in parallel with building suppression content, since suppression takes longer to show results either way.
